PROJECT MANAGER / DESIGN ENGINEER

Manufacturer of custom fabricated process equipment has an opening for a Project Manager/Design Engineer to design equipment and manage projects from receipt of purchase order to start-up. Projects range from small scale fabrications to multimillion dollar turnkey installations of automated chemical process equipment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Accountable for activities related to planning, coordinating, scheduling, monitoring and executing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Determine and prioritize tasks at the project level
  • Effectively manage time and resources between projects to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Provide support to project design team as needed including identifying project and technical design requirements
  • Proactively identify and manage risks and issues pertaining to projects
  • Manage customer expectations regarding project issues
  • Manage projects within given budget and schedule constraints
  • Provide complete project documentation including fabrication drawings, BOM, purchase requisitions, operating manuals, schedules, and other project documentation per customer and corporate guidelines. This may be accomplished independently or with design team assistance.
  • Work with installation team to provide on-site start up assistance to customers domestically and internationally

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years mechanical or process engineering experience with at least 2 years of project management experience in manufacturing and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of project management
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and shall have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Capable of producing designs from conceptual sketches, descriptions, or specifications
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques, sheet metal, piping, vessels, automation, and thermoplastics a plus
  • Proficiency with ASME pressure vessel code and calculations a plus
  • Effectively deal with high levels of uncertainty, ambiguity, and change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of different technical backgrounds including customers, vendors, internal estimators, and equipment fabricators
  • Comfortable working in a job shop environment with the ability to make decisions and problem solve
  • Must be able to utilize time effectively
  • Ability and desire to work hands-on
  • Willing and able to travel internationally (total travel less than 20%)
